INTERVIEW WITH THE JIMMY DIXON GROUP

The following is an interview of the band from late 2023.

Q: For those that have never heard the group before, how would you describe your music?

Cranky: Well, we all love that rock n roll sound paired with lyrics that are thoughtful and maybe even insightful.  You'll hear sounds coming from a rocking Rickenbacker 12-string electric guitar followed maybe by a Gibson Dove acoustic guitar that is set in some interesting alternate tuning.  Then we might go back to a Gretsch White Falcon to properly rock your socks off.  We try different things to get a rock n roll sound that we like.

Capo: We like guitar rock, we like acoustic singer/songwriter ballads.  In the end, we like it if it sounds good and the lyrics are well written.  That's really it.

Q: Who would you say are some influences on the group's music?

Jimmy: For those that have heard our shows or listened to our demo album ("The Rough Demos"), it's probably apparent that Bob Dylan is a big influence on the group.  Nick Drake, Patty Griffin, Neil Young to name a few others.

Cranky: The blues rock legends, icons like Hound Dog Taylor, Willie Dixon, Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf.

Benmont: Tom Petty, Mike Campbell.

Q: What music is out now, what label is it out on, and where can people go find it?

Jimmy: Right now, we just have an independent demo album out called "The Rough Demos."  We basically recorded it whenever and wherever we could find an empty studio and an engineer who had his back turned.  Even though we had to record quickly, we're really proud of what came out of these sessions.  We're not signed to a label but we are always open to new opportunities.  People can find the album almost anywhere rock n roll music is streamed these days.  Just search for The Jimmy Dixon Group or go to the Music tab on our website.  When we can sneak in, we're in a studio recording a second demo album which we intend to call "The Rough Demos II" and we hope to have that out later in 2024.

Q: How do people get in contact with the group?

Jimmy: People can always send me an email, I try to read every one.  They can reach me at jimmydixon@thejimmydixongroup.com.  We're not really social media kind of people, that's not our thing.  We try to focus on the music.  If anyone wants to reach our manager, Bill, he can be reached at management@thejimmydixongroup.com.
